Standard dentures are designed for a comfortable fit and for eating. These types of dentures are typically designed using standard materials and are used by the average patient.

The jaw bone in our mouth is stimulated by the roots of your teeth. When tooth loss occurs, the jaw bone is no longer stimulated, and bone loss may occur. You may experience this bone loss as “shrinking” of the bone.

Those denture patient who have experienced bone loss or with unusual/irregular bites, standard dentures may not be the ideal denture treatment. Such denture patients may require a personalized denture for the optimal denture treatment.

Removable partial dentures are created specifically for the patient’s needs, and can be made out of a metal and acrylic composition or completely out of acrylic. Every effort is made to design a self-cleansing partial denture that preserves the remaining teeth and oral structures.

When a partial denture is designed, the denturist acknowledges that chewing places a strain on the remaining teeth during eating. Partial dentures are designed with this in mind so that the chewing forces can be distributed evenly over the entire remaining teeth and soft tissues. Design modifications to your remaining teeth may be required to help equalize these forces.

Metal partials are considered stronger structurally, thinner and more hygienic than an acrylic partial. Acrylic partials are usually recommended as a transitional or temporary partial. Your denturist will determine the appropriate treatment plan and the appropriate partial for you

Your denturist may recommend immediate dentures in cases where all teeth are missing or complete extractions of the remaining teeth must be performed. By making an impression of your existing teeth and gums before the extraction surgery, Carlo Povegliano, D.D., F.C.A.D. can construct your new dentures by using the impressions as a working model. From your model, Carlo Povegliano, D.D., F.C.A.D. is able to copy and construct a denture, duplicating your original teeth, or even making adjustments with improvements to your appearance.

At your extraction appointment, your immediate dentures are inserted avoiding the embarrassment of having no teeth during your healing period.

In most cases, there is no way of trying the dentures on before the extractions are completed.

Please be sure to carefully follow the post-operative instructions given to you by the Surgeon or Denturist during the healing period. Because the tooth sockets are going to close, your gums and bone will recede to a much smaller size. It is important for you to attend regular check-ups and maintenance to ensure proper healing. After the healing period, a permanent reline or a new denture may be constructed to ensure a comfortable and an exact fit.
